In one of my favorite places with my favorite person. 💗 This summer will be our 4 year anniversary. I still get so much joy from looking back at these engagement pics taken by @chloeannheckman. We were so young & had no clue what we were getting into, but we’ve chosen each other every day since & that’s made all the difference. 🌼 I also get so much joy from this freakin lovely dress. I love picking out clothing that reminds me of something I would paint. 🌸 These photographs were taken in The Greenhouse at @theamericanclub, just a few minutes from my childhood home. It’s a magical place that transports you to another time. I highly recommend visiting for tea time. 🍵🍪 if you’re going, take me with you! 🤣🥰
Something new ✨
I’m definitely in a little bit of a fog lately.. Despite all the encouragement, support, kind words & love freely given from total strangers, I am still in this place of totally questioning myself at every turn. Before, when I had nothing to do & no jobs coming in, I let my anxiety run amuck. Now I’m beating myself up for a totally different reason. I don’t want to let people down & I don’t want get behind. 🧡 I’m not writing this for sympathy, but just to share something raw & honest. This is where I’m at. 💛 I’m working on my confidence. I’m desiring to believe in myself & my abilities. I’m hoping to have faith in others as they’ve had faith in me. I am trying to focus on the things I’ve done right & learn from the times I’ve messed up. 🧡

✨ ARTISTS DON’T HAVE TO STARVE! ✨ Read this long ass post if you want to learn my formula for pricing original artwork! I’m sharing this with you bc I feel like it’s actually really important. Plain & simple. 👇 The vote (see my story) is unanimous right now so it’s clear you guys definitely wanna know how artwork is priced!! Well I can’t speak for everyone & I can’t even be certain that my process is without flaws... Because this is something that is almost never talked about, even in artist communities. So I’m sure you guys who aren’t artists are seriously confused & you probably think we’re just pulling numbers out of our you know whats. 👇 I keep hearing this over-simplified recipe for determining how much to charge/price artwork or freelance work: “figure out how much you want to make in a year, figure out how much that is an hour & then multiply that hourly number by how long it takes to make your work.” 🤦‍♀️ omg face palm. It’s not completely off the mark but it’s setting you up for a load of financial woes & it’s just not super helpful... 👇 Because you’re running a freaking BUSINESS! You also have to pay taxes... uhhh that is also a thing. So if you’re interested in learning how I came up with my piecemeal formula for pricing artwork, read on!!! WARNING ⚠️ #mathoverload 👇 I priced this 11”x14” mixed-media painting at $264.00. 💸💰💸 #amiright? 🤣🤣🤣 not exactly. Let’s figure out how I came to that number. 👇 First off, it does make sense for me to consider how much time I spent not only painting, but also on the business end with getting it ready to hang, photographing, marketing/social media, putting it on my website, etc. It probably took 3-4 hours to paint this beginning to end & 1.5 hours to do everything else. But let’s also remember, an artist doesn’t spend 100% of their time painting or working on one specific painting, so the money I make from this has to cover me for indirect work too, like my time spent answering emails, doing taxes, applying for shows, setting up at shows, taking inventory, travel time, etc. 🥰 all that other fun stuff 🥰 👇 (continues in the comments)
This is a message for all of the business owners here. 👉 TRUST YOURSELF. Pay attention to your gut. Listen to your intuition. Especially women business owners because we often are less likely to... I had a sneaking suspicion that something wasn’t quite right today & it literally saved me hundreds of dollars & from a potentially very embarrassing, reputation shattering situation. This paint palette is an accurate representation of how I’ve been feeling lately. Messy. Scattered. Energetic. Manic. Going a million different directions. Yet still able to see & enjoy the beauty even when darkness is creeping in on the outskirts. Over the past year or more, I’ve made it one of my main priorities above almost everything - my business, my clients, friendships, free time - to cultivate my intuition. I have realized that our ability to be in touch & in tune with ourselves is one of the most important gifts we are given as humans. Don’t waste it. 🔥 Don’t lose your fire. Don’t lose your connection to your inner self.
