The Artist’s Way Study Group Series
In all my experience teaching art to adults, from college courses at MIAD, to teaching retired folks at the John Michael Kohler Art Center, to my own workshops (Maybe you’ve been to one?! Heyyy!), my biggest takeaway is that most of us already have the basic skills to make something creative, cool, unique and beautiful. Humans are innately creative. What a lot of adults don’t have is the permission to make that thing. And I’m not talking about giving yourself the “permission” to simply just set aside the time to be creative or allowing yourself to spend the money on some new art supplies. It runs much deeper than that. I’m talking about a mindset shift.
In this 13-part series we will use one of my favorite study books, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, to dive deep together. We will work on building a solid foundation for not only a fruitful creative practice, but a creative LIFE. We will root out the mindset shifts that need to happen to discover and recover your creative self, once and for all.
The best part?! Beyond the transformational topics we will discuss, in the process we build a grounded creative community. Among the top takeaways for the 2024 cohort of the Artist’s Way, the one I hear resonating and reverberating the deepest is the gratitude for the friendships and sense of belonging in community they felt. I can’t tell you the ways this makes my heart sing! All I want to do is to be able to keep providing this connection to as many wonderful artists and creatives as I can. Won’t you join us?!
Details for the event:
We will be meeting in-person at the Persika Design Co. Studio and Gallery in Bay View, WI and we will be studying one of my favorite books on living and practicing a creative life, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron together.
We will break up the book’s 12 lessons into 13 sessions every other Wednesday starting January 22nd and finishing with a big ol’ party on July 9th.
If you purchase all 13 sessions at once, you will get a 20% discount and your very own copy of the book included. (This roughs out to $28 per class compared to $35 when purchased individually.)
If you would prefer to drop-in to classes as your schedule allows or when the topic particularly piques your interest, you can purchase classes individually and you will need to buy the book separately to study along.
Each class will focus on check-ins as we go through the book, creative activities that further enhance the lessons, and relational accountability *No matter your artistic or creative discipline.
every meeting will include:
an overview of every chapter using a digital guidebook christina created specifically for every workshop
group discussion on the big themes of every chapter
Check-ins to keep you accountable to achieving your goals
Mini Workshop/Creative exercise
space to build friendships and create community
Drinks, Snacks and a Guaranteed good time
